Not sure why everyone is ripping into Dragons. They know that NWSF hand out premierships after 12 games... only need to win a few more.

10 in the bin rule
wrote on 24-Apr-22 11:10

In the reserves game yesterday at Eastwood, one of West Penno players got sin binned for having tape on his wrist. Can someone explain to me the sin bin rule?

I thought it was only if you spoke back to the ref? Not that it was a big deal cause we ended up trashing Woodies but it looked like a huge power trip from the ref who has been refereeing premier League for a while...

Just wanted to check.

Oh so it was just for the tape?

Not the mouthful he gave the ref when he was asked to take it off?

You obviously have no idea what was going on? Had nothing to do with verbals, ask the ref yourself when you see them next.

Apparently he was asked to take something off, taped it up instead, and the referee considered that to be dissent. Ridiculous ruling to me. Just shows how the refs in this comp are though, all about the power

or are they sick of the Generation ME attitude?

Received Communication
wrote on 24-Apr-22 15:16

Had a debate with a Prem's ref about this yesterday, who funnily enough had a brother playing for Woods. He provided this document regarding the jewellery policy:

https://www.nwsfra.com.au/AA/2022/TechDir_Jewellery_v2.pdf

If I'm being honest, this has never been communicated properly to the football association. Even corresponding with this PL ref, he didn't even realise there was a change in the jewellery policy because he has previously reffed our games and asked for wristbands to be tapped up.

The senior ref on the line yesterday told our player to tape up the wristband but the ref asked for it to be removed. Given that it was hard to take off, our player chose to tape it up as he done upon instruction in previous instruction.

Ref notices it and puts him 10 in the bin. Now according to the document above, she rightly was able to do so but because of the inconsistent advice provided by the more older senior ref, we had a situation where a player was needlessly put in the bin for no reason.

I generally thought that the sin bin rule apply for all dissent and verbal aggression shown towards the match offiicial. That doesn't appear to be the case for this scenario even though a referee document suggests otherwise.

Imo, the 10 in the bin rule should not be changed for these type of minor incidents. Again, it wasn't costly because of the result but I think majority would agree that there needs to be more consistency around game changing decisions like this. Corresponding with the PL ref last night, he's hoping to have a pre-season stakeholder meeting before next season starts so that refs, players, captains, coaches etc. etc. can get into the same room so that we can all be on the same page.

I honestly don't think this was a power-trip move. I just think there was some poor communication between player and ref and a technicality in the rule that presented an unwarranted situation.

The ref is probably one of the most consistent we have in our comp. I just think she was forced a hand that she didn't need to show.

That's my 2 cents anyway

Easy peasy
wrote on 24-Apr-22 20:59

If the ref asks you to do something simple like take off jewellery and you blatantly disregard it you deserve to be punished

The centre is the ref that is in charge.

They're the one you listen to.

It's not that hard to understand...

Went and watched the game at Eastwood, was confused about the sin bin like everyone but cant understand why a player thinks he is entitled to not listen to the refs instructions. If she asked him to take it off and he wants to disobey it what does he expect.

On another note West Penno looked really nice and played well. Disappointed at the way the bench would hurl abuse at the referee though. No point being so talented if you behave like wife beaters on the sideline.

With kids around everywhere surely these guys are embarrassed acting like this. Took the polish off a very polished football performance, especially from their striker in firsts.

The mac president is a woman isn't she? And she was carring on? interesting - although we have never seen mac dragons be under the pump, looks like she can't handle the pressure cooker of the PL.

As for the NER coach, he is nothing more than a piece of shit, has the worst reputation in the comp and deserves to be deported.

For the NER club to stick by him for so many years really shows where that club is at. Could be one of the best clubs around, but would rather be known as a bunch of thugs.

Religious piece of cotton thread with sports tape over it.... whilst Oppostion player was wearing a metal ring. Apparently hair ties around the wrist are fine but a piece of cotton thread taped over with sports tape is dangerous and warrants the ref to power trip and affect the game at 1-0 by reducing one team to 10 players. Disgrace

Inconsistencies aside - at PL level we tend not to ask teams to make sure all jewellery is removed nor line both teams up to inspect like u12s before the start of play, so we may not see items of jewellery until well into the match - we're kind of looking at other more pressing matters. The only item around a wrist that can be worn is a medical bracelet and it must be taped. Everything else, including religious items are not permissible regardless of what a player defines as farcical or not, that's the LOTG. I had a similar query with a player whose hair tie was around his neck as he didn't need it all the time, what ever that meant. He argued a bit but really it's not a hill to die on... unless there was more to it. Pedantic I know but it's the LOTG - if a referee is being inspected, absolutely they will address that.

As for the situation for dismissal, one does not know the circumstances, there may have been exchanges between the player and the referee leading up to the catalyst for which they had enough. Remember, dissent is by word or action... note the last word, action. Some bit of whatever around the wrist is hardly a hill to die on for a player. As I coach I'd be more ticked off by his actions and mentality and leaving the team in the situation one down, than that of any referee. Silly really.

Well if it was the brother of an sta player we all know he's the worst ref in the comp. Bloke had an anxiety attack in the middle of an AA12 game 2 seasons ago. Bloke couldn't control an U13/5s game. Just like his father.
